Breakfast fundraiser, 'Pink Panther,' charity hockey: Weekend events in Newport County

Another three-day weekend is on the horizon meaning there's plenty of time to enjoy yourself.

Hopefully, everyone is rested from the holidays and has either avoided or gotten over the illnesses going around leaving the opportunity to check out some events that are made for families or others.

From fundraisers to children's theater to getting hands-on, there is something for everyone taking place across Newport County.

Here's a look at five options to put on your calendar.

Boy Scout Breakfast Fundraiser

The Knights of Columbus with the local Boy Scout Troops #1 and #82 will be holding a Boy Scout Breakfast Fundraiser on Sunday from 8 a.m. until noon at the St. Barnabas Social Hall. Breakfast will include Pancakes, Eggs, Sausage, Potatoes, Coffee, Juice and Water. Dine-in and/or take-out are available.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or the offices of St. Barnabas, St. Anthony, and the Portsmouth United Methodist Church. Ticket Prices are $12 for adults and $6 for children 6-12. Under 6 are free.

Newport Children's Theater

The Newport Children's Theater will present "Pink Panther Strikes Again" on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 13 at 1 and 6 p.m. in the Kate Grana Theater at Portsmouth High School.

Tickets can be purchased online for $15 or $8 for children under 10 by visiting https://newportchildrenstheatre.com. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $18 and $12.

Learn to Square Dance

The Town Howlers Square Dance Club will hold Open House evenings of Modern Western Square Dancing on Sunday, Jan. 14, 21 and 28 at St. Lucy’s Parish Hall 909 West Main Road Middletown.

Dancing from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. No dancing experience is needed. Couples and singles are welcome. Casual dress and comfortable footwear are suggested.

Wake + Create

Visit the Newport Art Museum this Saturday for engaging family-oriented programming designed to inspire young minds and satisfy the curiosity of every member of the family. Each Wake + Create is uniquely curated based on a theme and includes a Guided Close Looking Tour of works in the galleries, followed by engaging art-making activities geared for ages 4-10, their families and caregivers.

This month will include a look at the exhibition from Arghavan Khosravi and examine her use of patterns inspired by mosaics. Participants will then create their own collaborative wall of Islamic motif “tiles."

Wake + Create is a free program included in the price of  Museum admission for non-members. Free for all children under 17 and Museum Members.

Guns and Hoses

Firefighters from across Aquidneck Island will be taking on their counterparts in police departments when the third annual Guns and Hoses charity hockey takes place Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at the St. George's ice rink.

A suggested donation of $10 per person or $20 for a family will help benefit Madison Holden, as well as raise funds for supporting mental health among first responders.
