The upcoming Breaking Bad movie El Camino will see us finally find out what happened to Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman following the series finale.

However, it was not a role that the actor necessarily expected to return to, the star admitting he thought they "nailed the ending" at the end of season five.

"I really loved Jesse," Paul told The Hollywood Reporter. "I knew him better than anyone, but it was a big weight off of my shoulders to hang up the cleats and walk away. I thought it was goodbye, and I was OK with that."

However, when talk of a sequel movie emerged, the star trusted creator Vince Gilligan to do the right thing.

"I'm like everybody else on the planet – I think Vince and the rest of the writers really nailed the landing with the ending of Breaking Bad, and why mess with that?" the actor continued.

"But it's Vince we're talking about. I would follow Vince into a fire. That's how much I trust the man. I would do anything that he asked me to."

Speaking further of returning to the character for the first time in years, Paul recalled: "It was so easy for me to just jump into where Jesse's at mentally, emotionally, because I lived and breathed everything he went through and then some, and so, honestly, it felt like a part of me had gone through that as well.

"All I had to do was just memorize these words and then play them out when they yelled 'action'."

El Camino is set to drop on Netflix next month, though if you fancy watching it on the big screen the movie will get a limited cinema release in selected theatres.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Story premieres on Netflix on October 11, 2019.
