Breaking down Texans G Lane Taylor’s contract

The Houston Texans bolstered the interior of their offensive line with the signing of former Green Bay Packers guard Lane Taylor.

According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the details of the one-year contract include $1.127 million with a $137,500 signing bonus and a $990,000 salary. $262,500 of that salary is guaranteed. Taylor’s deal counts $987,500 against the salary cap under a veteran salary benefit, and the deal also includes an injury waiver, which lessens the risk on Houston’s part to take a chance on a player who has only played three games over the past two seasons.

Taylor has the benefit of having previously worked with the Texans’ offensive line coach, James Campen, who had been with the Packers from 2004-18. However, Campen was the Packers’ offensive line coach from 2007-18, which gave him plenty of years to work and understand the talent Taylor could bring to the Texans’ offensive line.

The Texans released guards Senio Kelemete and Zach Fulton in the offseason along with starting center Nick Martin.
