A months-long struggle

Since the beginning of 2024, News 5 has been following the story of a dog that had a box stuck on his head.

Witnesses said the dog had been roaming near James T Strickland Youth Center for months. The location is near Yerby Drive and Costarides Street.

The City of Mobile Animal Shelter employees and community members have been trying to capture the dog for months to get the box off his head.

The animal services department told News 5 they previously could not get close enough to the dog to pull the box off its head.

And, they said, it would require a team effort.

A spokesperson for the city told News 5 previously that they were working with a local veterinarian and the Mobile County Animal Shelter to locate and safely tranquilize the dog to remove the box.
