Breaking news: Egan Bernal in Colombian hospital following impact with bus

Egan Bernal is in a Colombian hospital following a training crash Monday, team officials confirmed.

The 2019 Tour de France champion was “conscious upon arrival,” Ineos Grenadiers officials said without revealing more details about what happened.

Early reports suggest Bernal struck a bus, though details are unclear of what exactly occurred.

Colombian media reported that the incident happened in Cundinamarca, and police said Bernal struck a bus that was parked in the roadway. Officials said Bernal was in stable condition, according to media reports.

Colombian radio BluRadio quoted Bernal’s ex-girlfriend saying that he might have suffered a possible fractured femur. Those reports are not confirmed.

The radio station also cited a police report, saying that a bus traveling on a roadway from Tunja to Bogota stopped to let out a passenger, and [Bernal] who was going in the same direction, “did not notice the stop, and struck the back of the bus.”
