BREAKING: Suspect shoots himself during police standoff at Abilene motel

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A suspect shot himself during a police standoff at an Abilene motel Friday afternoon.

The standoff happened at Motel 6 on the 4900 block of W Stamford Street around 10:00 a.m.

Taylor County Sheriff’s Office officials at the scene told KTAB and KRBC they received a phone call claiming a man staying at the hotel had stolen a truck and rifle then barricaded himself in a room.

Law enforcement arrived from both the Taylor and Callahan County Sheriff’s Offices.

Deputies wearing armor and carrying long rifles eventually broke into the room where the suspect was barricaded.

They say he then went into the bathroom, where he shot himself during ongoing negotiations.

This suspect, who has not been publicly identified, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported and no further information has been released.
