Firefighters contain 25-acre grass fire in south Tulare before blaze hit homes

A grass fire scorched about 25 acres in a southern Tulare field Wednesday afternoon, threatening nearby homes and pulling engines from across Tulare County.

Around 1:30 p.m., firefighters responded to an area near South I Street and Paige Avenue, Tulare Fire Marshal Ryan Leonardo said. Residents were temporarily evacuated along Wade Avenue as crews battled the encroaching flames in the neighboring field.

Units from Tulare, Visalia and Tulare County fire departments responded to the three-alarm blaze.

Animal control officers were also requested to help evacuate dogs and horses, firefighters said.

No injuries or property damage were reported, other than a burned fence, Leonardo said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Crews actively searched for hotspots Thursday after the blaze threatened homes in the area.
