Water main repaired in Jefferson Parish, boil water advisory remains

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The water line break that caused water issues for tens of thousands of residents on the East Bank of Jefferson Parish has been repaired.

Jefferson Parish Water Department Director Sidney Bazley said it was repaired around 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, but that does not mean that residents should use their water. Crews are in the process of re-energizing the system.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24 Jefferson Parish officials held a news conference to provide an update on the efforts to repair the water main break.

Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng estimated that the pipe had been installed in the 1940s and collapsed due to age and weather conditions like droughts and freezing temperatures.

“So you have to look at how we develop as a parish. When the houses started building out here, we started laying this infrastructure to build a community. And we’re old,” said Sheng.
