When is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Details to get mammograms in October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a good reminder for women to schedule their routine mammograms. National Mammography Awareness Day is Oct. 20.

A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. However, with early detection, a woman's survival rate goes up. And innovations in research, surgical options and clinical trials give women more options.

Molina Healthcare of Texas and the Kelly Center for Hunger Relief will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Fair from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13 at 915 N. Florence St.

The event will include a presentation on the importance of breast cancer screenings, free screenings for those who meet selected criteria, free flu vaccines (available on first-come, first served basis), a special gift to the first 12 cancer survivors who attend, and a balloon release in honor of those lost to cancer.

Blue Flame Building to illuminate in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

In honor of Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Housing Opportunity Management Enterprise announces that the iconic Blue Flame Building in Downtown El Paso will be illuminated in pink on the evening of Friday, Oct. 13.

HOME is committed to raising awareness about critical health issues and offering solidarity to those battling metastatic breast cancer.

“HOME believes in the power of unity and community support,” said Gerald Cichon, CEO of HOME in a release. “Breast cancer, particularly in its metastatic stage, affects the lives of so many. By illuminating the Blue Flame Building in pink, we send a message of strength and compassion to all those facing this relentless disease. It is our hope that this display not only raises awareness but also reminds everyone that they are not alone in their battle.”

Mammograms offered for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

To encourage more El Paso women to get mammograms, the Hospitals of Providence will offer $60 breast screenings and $130 3D imaging during mammogram events and with extended hours.

The Hospitals of Providence Mammo events will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Westside Center, 601 Sunland Park Dr. and Eastside Center, 3270 Joe Battle Blvd. Suite 340-B.
