Bremerton WestSound Symphony joining partners on holiday traditions
Musicians from the Bremerton WestSound Symphony will appear in two holiday events this week.
The “Nutcracker” is a part of the community in a way that is unlike any other production I know. Small children watch it wide-eyed and enraptured. Seeing youngsters on stage who are just a bit older, they ask when they will be able to join the company. Many of them ultimately do join and stay for years.
When I meet with Kitsap County arts patrons, sponsors, community leaders, and folks who just happen to love classical music and dance, I often find that they have family members who have danced in our “Nutcracker” production.
In previous seasons I wrote about families with two generations of dancers on the stage and two generations in the orchestra. Time has passed. We now have the third generation working with the Peninsula Dance Theater. This is a remarkable achievement.
Having attended and performed “The Nutcracker” in many cities, I still love PDT's Bremerton production. We have more jokes and more fun with our staging. Ours is a family “Nutcracker” that continues to entertain and enthrall children and adults year after year.
Peninsula Dance Theater — with its dancers, musicians, singers, choreographers, ballet masters, set designers, scenery painters, engineering crew and stage technicians — is a living and vibrant part of the Bremerton community. I am proud to be associated with this fine company and school, founded more than four decades ago by Lawan Morrison and now managed by both Lawan and Mallory Morrison. "The Nutcracker” is our traditional kickoff for a holiday season of great fun. Please join us this weekend!
Members of our orchestra and chorale will also perform sacred music as part of the Advent Service at 10:30 on Sunday morning, December 4, at Bremerton United Methodist Church. We will perform Kyrie, Gloria and Credo this week featuring Soprano Alyssa Hersey and Mezzo Ann Jacobs, with music by Bach and Futterman. Happy Holidays to one and all!
