Former Strictly Come Dancing pro Brendan Cole has said the show’s famous curse will never die out because of the “hands on” nature of training.

Cole was embroiled in the first ever case of the Curse of Strictly when he split with fiancee and fellow show dancer Camilla Dallerup while partnering newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky in series one.

He has always denied that anything was going on between himself and Kaplinsky, who also split with her long-term partner, but has now said he thinks affairs will always happen on the show.

Cole told the Sunday People: “It’s intense. Think about it.

“If you go to work with somebody every single day – hands on – and you’re working towards the same goal and you’ve got chemistry and this incredible experience that everyone loves to talk about, it’s only natural it’s going to happen occasionally.

“I’ve probably said more than enough.”

While Cole, now married to Zoe Hobbs who he has two children with, denies he was having an affair, his former fiancee has been more outspoken on the subject.

In 2015, Dallerup - now married to former Hollyoaks star Kevin Sacre - told the Daily Star: “To this day I have no idea whether it was her fame and celebrity that swept him away or if he really did feel a strong connection with her. I’m guessing it was probably a bit of both. It felt as if the fact that we’d just got engaged meant nothing to either of them.

“What was really hurtful was not just that Brendan appeared to have forgotten he was engaged, the entire nation seem to have forgotten he was engaged.”

There have been a number of high-profile Strictly Curse couples over the BBC dancing competition’s 16-series history.

Most recently, 2018 winner Stacey Dooley split with her boyfriend and got together with her dance partner Kevin Clifton, who had not long split from his Strictly pro dancer wife Karen.

Rachel Riley has just married her dancing partner Pasha Kovalev in Las Vegas and is expecting her first child with him. She took part in the show the year after getting married, but had split with her first husband by the time the show was over.

Beh Cohen split with his wife of 11 years and the mother of his children, and is now in a relationship with dancer Kristina Rihanoff who he has a daughter with - and who also previously dated another of her celebrity partners, Joe Calzaghe.

During the 2018 series, the programme was rocked by headline about Seann Walsh being pictured kissing partner Katya Jones - married to fellow pro Neil - on his then-girlfriend’s birthday.
