Brentford woman identified as victim in Oct. 18 Clark County fatal crash

A Brentford woman has been identified as the person who died Oct. 18 in a two-vehicle crash near Wallace in Clark County.

Preliminary information from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety indicates that Jacklyn Fortin, 32, who was driving a 2019 GMC Terrain SUV, died in the wreck. She was westbound on state Highway 20, near its intersection with 436th Avenue, when she crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2019 Kenworth Semi-tractor and trailer in the eastbound lane, according to a news release.

The crash was a mile northwest of Wallace at 10:22 a.m. Joshua Gates of Gilman, Iowa, 33, was the driver of the semi-tractor trailer, per the release. He was not injured and was wearing a seat belt.

That section of Highway 20 was closed to traffic for about five hours.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
