Brentwood Man Photographs Manhattan Beach's Neighbor, Dockweiler

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Just north of Manhattan Beach, Dockweiler State Beach offers visitors plenty of activities, though COVID-19 restrictions have put a damper on several of them. Under normal conditions, visitors would have fire pits to use, volleyball courts, the Dockweiler Youth Center and the Dockweiler RV Park. Still available for use is the ocean, sand, bike path, restrooms and showers.

Jetties at the north end of the beach offer ideal fishing opportunities and shore fishing is also popular. The beach is also home to a fenced enclosure for the western snowy plover, a federally protected shore bird, according to the Los Angeles County website on Dockweiler.

Brentwood resident Mark Galasso shot his first landscape photos at Dockweiler just last month. Galasso has long photographed school bands, at no charge, and says doing so "is just a hobby for me! My kids, who are now 25 and 22, were in the music programs at Palisades Charter and I became the 'band photographer' and I never stopped! I no longer photograph Pali as I followed the band director who got a new job at Riverside Poly... and through all the contacts I have made over the years I also photograph other high school and middle schools as well as the world division drumline groups which are among the best in the nation! All my photos are always free as I do this for the kids and also for the schools to use in yearbooks and websites, etc. I love to support kids however I can!"

Due to the pandemic and associated "shutdown, I just take an evening or afternoon drive and end up wherever" and takes photos, he told Manhattan Beach Patch.
