NEW PHILADELPHIA — State Rep. Brett Hudson Hillyer has announced he will file petitions to run for reelection to the Ohio House of Representatives.

While the district number and exact configuration is up in the air due to ongoing redistricting debates, Hillyer said he looks forward to serving Tuscarawas County and eastern Ohio for another two years.

He is currently serving in his second term in the Ohio House where he has won each general election by more than 30 points.

He said he will aim to ensure transparency in Ohio’s education system, ensuring that every parent is aware of the curriculum and values their child is being taught in schools. He also plans to continue to advocate for a fair and equitable funding formula that does not leave eastern Ohio’s kids behind.

Additionally, Hillyer said he plans to carry on his efforts to make sure that the justice system is fair and accessible to all Ohioans by working on projects like bail and sentencing reform.

“It has been an honor to be a champion for eastern Ohio in Columbus. Even though it makes for some long days on the road, I aim to spend every night at home in Tuscarawas County. The long trek to Columbus allows me to ready myself for the next fight for my family and yours,” Hillyer said.

“While the powers that be may not always listen, they will certainly always hear the voice of our region every day I step foot in the Ohio Statehouse,” he added.

Hillyer currently chairs the Civil Justice Committee and serves on the Financial Institutions, Energy and Natural Resources Committees as well as JCARR (Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review).

In addition to his work in the legislature, he is in private practice with the law firm of Connolly, Hillyer & Ong. He is also an agent for Ohio Bar Title and Commonwealth Title.

Hillyer lives with his wife, Anna, and his son Hudson in Uhrichsville.
