Brevard College Emeritus Professor, Dr. James H. Reynolds III, recently published his book, "A Traveler's Guide to the Highway Geology of Iceland: A Geologist's View from the Road of Iceland's Volcanic, Glacial, and Shoreline Features," with Linus Learning of Ronkonkoma, New York.

Unlike other books about Iceland's geology, which are typically organized by category or region, Reynolds' book describes the geological features one sees while traveling along all of Iceland's major roads, and nearly all of the secondary and tertiary roads, in the sequence that they appear, according to a news release. It was recently listed on Amazon.com.

Reynolds taught Geology at Brevard, in a one-person program, from 1999-2019. He led or co-led trips that brought Brevard students to Iceland, Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador's Galápagos Islands, Italy, Greece, and Egypt.

While at Brevard, Reynolds was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach, in Spanish, at two universities in Argentina. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Galápagos Conservancy from 2012-2020. In 2006, he was elected to the Fellowship of the Geological Society of America. He also served as the Vice Chair of the North Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club.

He is presently the Chair of the local Pisgah Sierra Club Group. Reynolds also currently serves as a frequent Scientific Expert on Smithsonian Journeys Excursions to Iceland, Machu Picchu-Galápagos, and Patagonia.
