McNutt appointed principal of new middle school in Viera

Brevard Public Schools recently announced that Catherine McNutt will be the first principal at the new Central Area Middle School under construction in Viera.

McNutt is the current principal at Hoover Middle School, and has been with BPS since 2007.

“I am humbled and honored to serve my community as the principal of the new middle school,” McNutt said. “I know the anticipation and excitement surrounding this school, and I look forward to working with the community to create an incredible learning environment for students.”

McNutt has served Brevard Public Schools as a teacher at Viera High School; a guidance services professional and dean at Melbourne High School; assistant principal of curriculum at Hoover Middle School; and, most recently, as principal of Hoover.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Florida; a Master of Arts in English from Wake Forest University; and a Master of Education in educational leadership from the American College of Education.

“We are excited for the great things that Ms. McNutt is going to do for our community,” acting Superintendent Sue Hann said. “Her work at Hoover Middle School has been exemplary, and she has great community connections, which will be important as we open this new school. Ms. McNutt will be a great leader for the school and our school families.”

McNutt and her family live in Viera. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Carl; daughter, Ainsley; and son Hudson. She also loves cheering on the Florida Gators.

McNutt will officially begin her new role on July 1.

Patel launches mobile occupational therapy practice

Jital Patel recently launched Coastal Occupational Therapy, a mobile service that brings comprehensive occupational therapy services directly to Brevard County’s elder population.

Patel is a board-licensed and registered occupational therapist with a master’s degree in occupational therapy from the New York Institute of Technology.

Coastal Occupational Therapy says it bridges the gap in services that can occur when seniors transition between settings, such as hospital to home. The company’s mission is to help individuals maintain continuity of high-quality services in their residence and maintain a healthy and independent life.

“I understand the complex and dynamic interactions between people, their environments and the activities they need to accomplish in their daily lives,” Patel said. “The path to a person’s health and well-being is intricately linked to participating in daily occupations.”

Patel, who has worked in various therapy setting across the United States, also is a Certified Falls Prevention Specialist and a Driving Rehab Professional.

Prior to getting her master's degree in occupational therapy in 2013, she worked as a portfolio accountant for Bear Stearns and J.P. Morgan.

She has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Rutgers University.

Ludeman joins Brevard Achievement Center board

Karen Ludeman recently joined the board of the Brevard Achievement Center.

Ludeman is vice president of customer programs at Thales.

Based in Rockledge, is Brevard Achievement Center is the region's largest employer of people with disabilities, linking worksites with more than 600 employees. The group also offers employment training and placement services to 1,300 people.

Prior to joining Thales, Ludeman had positions at Rockwell Collins, Arvato Services and Nokia Mobile Phones.

She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a Master of Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology.

Financial advisers Carter, Hester named to Forbes list

Joe Carter and Tim Hester of the Carter Hester Group at Morgan Stanley recently were named to Forbes’ 2022 Best-In-State ranking. The ranking honors outstanding financial advisers in each state.

SHOOK Research helped compile the list for Forbes, which uses financial data and interviews candidates nominated by their firms.

All advisers considered for the list had a minimum of seven years of experience.

Portfolio performance was not a criterion due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data.
