Brevard Symphony Orchestra offers three-part summer series

The program for Brevard Symphony Orchestra’s “Summer Evenings” Series my not include Seals and Crofts’ “Summer Breeze,” but the selections for the laidback three-part series that launches June 17 are nevertheless breezy. And at $25 a ticket, easy on the entertainment budget.

"The BSO 'Summer Evenings' Series is an incredible opportunity for audience members to experience three great concerts in an intimate setting,” said Maestro Christopher Confessore, music director and principal conductor.

“The performances are informal, informative and engaging, with performers speaking about the selections and themselves throughout the concert.”

The acoustics at the venue, Suntree United Methodist Church, are top-notch, so the audience is in for a bounty of beautiful sounds.

“Our Favorite Things,” the title of the inaugural June 17 concert, features assistant concertmaster Joni Hanze and principal trumpet Tom Macklin, who will be joined by some very talented friends to play - what else? - their favorite, best-loved music.

The July 8 concert goes “From Bach to Broadway” with the Florida Chamber Brass, led by BSO trombonist Joey Vasick, who leads the audience on a musical journey that spans fan favorites in classical music as well as show tunes.

Rounding out the series is the August 12 is a recital by BSO concertmaster Lis Ferrigno and pianist Scott Watkins to celebrate Ferrigno’s 25th season with a concert that features Faure’s “Violin Sonata No. 1.”

All “Summer Evenings” concert are held 7 p.m. on Saturdays at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne. Individual tickets are $25, but for $60 you get a subscription to all three performances.

Every year, the BSO brings the patriotic tunes on Independence Day, when the orchestra performs a free, family-friendly concert at 8 p.m. at Cocoa’s Riverfront Park, followed by fireworks at 9:15 p.m. The park opens early with food available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs or blanket and settle in for the patriotic evening.

Make the occasion even more special with the BSO’s VIP package, which includes pre-concert barbecue dinner and dessert at 6:30 p.m., plus reserved parking and reserved VIP concert seating, both priceless amenities during the busy event. These packages cost $60 for regular season subscribers and $75 for non-subscribers.
