Brewers add former Giants left-hander Jake McGee to their bullpen

The move won't become official until Saturday, but the Milwaukee Brewers bolstered their bullpen by signing left-hander Jake McGee to a major-league deal.

McGee, who turns 36 on Aug. 6, was released by the San Francisco Giants on July 14 after going 1-2 with a 7.17 earned run average and WHIP of 1.55 in 24 appearances.

In 2021, McGee was 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA and WHIP of 0.91 in 62 appearances with a career-best 31 saves.

A veteran of 13 major-league seasons, McGee has thrown his four-seam fastball 85.2% of the time in 2022, averaging 94.7 mph, and a slider 14.8% of the time.

He's allowed only two homers in 21⅔ innings so far but is allowing fly balls at a 34.2% rate, the highest of his career to date.

McGee will be the Brewers' fourth left-handed reliever, joining closer Josh Hader, Hoby Milner and Brent Suter.

The Brewers did make one roster move official on Friday, reinstating outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the concussion injured list. He had been out since July 3.
