Brewers designate reliever Luke Barker for assignment

PITTSBURGH - The Milwaukee Brewers won’t be able to activate reliever Trevor Rosenthal until late August at the earliest, but with relivers Taylor Rogers, Matt Bush and Dinelson Lamet being added to the roster, the team needed to clear three spots on Tuesday.

One of those was checked off by losing Josh Hader, another by placing reliever Jandel Gustave on the 15-day injured list. Bush was not active for Tuesday’s game, but a third move will be required prior to Wednesday.

To make space on the 40-man roster for Rosenthal, the Brewers designated reliever Luke Barker for assignment. Barker, 30, made two his MLB debut this year and pitched in three games for the Brewers but sprained his UCL in his throwing elbow in late June while in the minors.
