When the models hit the runway this Thursday at Akademia Brewing Company, they won't be doing so for the sake of glamour or to show off the work of high-powered designers, and they might just be someone you know.

"What They Were Wearing," a ticketed event and silent auction to benefit SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners), is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. at the 150 Crane Dr. brew pub.

Dressed in the latest spring fashions from northeast Georgia boutiques and retail stores, the folks wearing the clothes will be individuals who helped raise the most donations to SANE Inc., an Athens-Clarke County nonprofit that provides forensic examinations and evidence collection, court testimony and community prevention education related to sexual and physical assault.

More than $6,600 had been raised as of 5 p.m. Monday from more than 317 donors. Among the 21 fundraisers listed, the top 10 included Tanya Adcock, Charlie Upchurch, Keith Howard, Patricia Chafin, Oconee County Sheriff James A. Hale Jr., Pat Eagleson, LeAnne Hale, James Chafin, Janet Jones and Felicia Fortson.

V.I.P and general admission tickets to the fashion show have sold out, but those interested in donating or becoming a participant can visit fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/Model or text WTWW to 41444.

From the SANE website: "If you are facing immediate danger, call 911. Call (800) 656-HOPE (4673) to be connected with a trained staff member from a sexual assault service provider in your area."
