New brewery opening soon, library closed, events in Bellingham and new unique cocktails

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

New brewery a bit closer to opening

Larrabee Lager Company, a new brewery coming to Bellingham in summer 2023 has posted another update on its “finishing touches” before it opens.

No opening date has been announced yet, but the brewery will be at 4151 Meridian St.

Bellingham Public Library closed on Memorial Day

The Bellingham Public Library announced on Facebook that all of its locations will be closed on Monday, May 29 in honor of Memorial Day. The locations will open up with regular hours on Tuesday, May 30.

New unique cocktail menu in Fairhaven

Skylark’s Hidden Cafe in Fairhaven announced its summer cocktail menu, and it has some unique drink options.

From a peanut butter and jelly old fashioned to a “purple pineapple potion,” the new menu is full of exciting drinks to try.

Skylark’s Hidden Cafe is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Saturday and is at 1308 11th St. in Bellingham.

Midweek farmers market on pause

The Bellingham Farmers Market announced on May 18 that it will no longer host midweek markets on Wednesdays during 2023.

“Although we have had much enthusiasm for the Wednesday market over its 20-plus-year history, this has not translated to the purchases we need to build the vibrant, bustling and sustainable market we want to see,” the announcement stated.

“If you want to see a future mid-week market succeed, keep shopping at the Saturday farmers market!”

The Bellingham Farmers Market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through the third week of December at 1100 Railroad Ave.

Bellingham hot sauce company expands

Funky’s Hot Sauce Factory of Bellingham announced its expansion in a Facebook post on May 18, expanding its company to also make BBQ sauce.

The company bought out Trilby’s Kitchen, a BBQ sauce, rub and dip mix business.

Funky’s Hot Sauce can be purchased online or at various stores across Whatcom County, Washington state, Oregon, California, New York, Massachusetts and parts of Canada.
