Brexit LIVE: Theresa May calls for 'courage' at crunch EU summit in Brussels

Theresa May has spoken to EU officials in Brussels in an effort to save stalled Brexit negotiations from reaching a stalemate.

The Prime Minister addressed the leaders of the EU27 countries before a dinner as she battled to save her beleaguered "Chequers" proposals, amid continued opposition within her own party.

The president of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, said: "There was a message of goodwill and readiness to reach an agreement, but I didn't perceive anything substantially new in terms of content as I listened to Mrs May."

It emerged that Mrs May told the leaders: "The last stage will need courage, trust and leadership on both sides."
