Brian Payne, firefighter in Larchmont and Mamaroneck, died from 9/11-related illness

LARCHMONT – Firefighters paid tribute Thursday to Brian Payne, who dedicated many years as a volunteer firefighter in Larchmont and Mamaroneck before he died on Nov. 12 from 9/11-related illness. He was 55.

Family members, firefighters and groups of pipes and drums made the quarter-mile procession from Fox Funeral Home to St. Augustine Church, where a funeral Mass was held for Payne, whose casket was transported on a firetruck.

Payne was a member of the Larchmont Fire Department from 1989 to 2007, including serving as chief from 2001 to 2004, according to his obituary. He spent time at Ground Zero after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. He then served in the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department from 2007 until his death.

Born and raised in Larchmont, Payne worked in sales in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. He is survived by his wife, four children, six siblings and many other relatives.
