Bridge Collapses in Puerto Rico as Hurricane Fiona Makes Landfall

A bridge collapsed in Utuado, Puerto Rico, on Sunday, September 18, as the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Hurricane Fiona made landfall along the island’s southwest coast.

Footage captured by Twitter user @picklepressing shows the bridge being overpowered by floodwaters and being carried away.

According to Roberto Lefranc Fortuno, the US House Delegate for Puerto Rico, the bridge was installed in the area after Hurricane Maria, which devastated the region and destroyed the island’s power grid in 2017.

On September 18, President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration in Puerto Rico and ordered federal assistance to supplement local emergency responders. Credit: @picklepressing via Storyful
