Bridge Connecting Severodonetsk and Lysychansk Destroyed Amid Fighting in Luhansk

A bridge connecting Severodonetsk and Lysychansk was destroyed by Russians during fighting in Luhansk, the Oblast’s governor, Sergey Haidai, said on Telegram on May 21.

Footage released on May 22 shows heavy damage to the Pavlograd Bridge over the Siverskyi Donetsk River, with part of the bridge lying in the riverbed. Damage to rail tracks is also seen.

Haidai first posted a photo of the destroyed bridge on May 21. He said that history had repeated itself, referring to a separate destruction of the bridge in 2014.

The governor later posted that Russian military equipment that targeted the bridge had been destroyed by Ukrainian forces.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in their 6 am update on May 22 that fighting was still ongoing near Severodonetsk and Lysychansk. According to the post, the attacks were repelled. Credit: Sergey Haidai via Storyful
