FREMONT — The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums kicked off its Verandah Concert series Wednesday night as community members gathered on the lawn to listen to Bridge County Bluegrass Band.
The Toledo-area band took the stage around 7 p.m. and performed a series of bluegrass songs as spectators sat in lawn chairs or on blankets on the Hayes Presidential Center lawn.
Due to extreme heat, the June 15 Verandah concert was canceled. That concert was to have featured the Fostoria Community Band.
The popular Hayes concerts take place twice a month on Wednesdays on the verandah of the historic home of 19th U.S. president, Rutherford B., and first lady Lucy Hayes.
Residents are encouraged to take a lawn chair or blanket for seating on the expansive lawn.
Admission is free.
Each event begins with an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m.
Donations can be made for the ice cream. Performances start at 7 p.m.
The remaining 2022 Verandah Concert schedule is:
July 13 – Grand Royale Ükulelists of the Black Swamp (GRÜBS).
July 27 – Common Chords with Robert Jones and Matt Watroba, singing folk songs and creating connections through music.
Aug. 10 – The Chefs of Dixieland, performing Dixieland jazz.
Aug. 24 – North Coast Big Band, performing toe-tapping tunes of the World War II era.
