KEY ACTION  Approved a bid of nearly $800,000 from V.O. Menuez & Son out of Millersburg for a bridge replacement on County Road 30A, south of County Road 2175 in Mohican Township.

DISCUSSION  Commissioners Mike Welch and Denny Bittle voted to accept the bid. Commissioner James Justice was absent. An Ohio Public Works Commission grant will fund nearly $372,000 of the cost.

“The project will begin ASAP and should be finished by early December or late November,” said County Engineer Ed Meixner.

Job and Family Services amends contracts, hires two

OTHER ACTION

  • Amended two Job and Family Services contracts. One with Transformation Network for the Food Assistance Employment and Training program allows for the approval of the budget for the second year of the contract. The other, also with Transformation Network for Employment Training and Work Skills Development, also allows for approval of the budget in the contract's second year.

  • Hired Tonya Goossens as a child support case manager with Job and Family Services at a starting wage of $14.94 per hour, effective July 11.

  • Hired Janice Ramsey as a clerical specialist at a starting wage of $13.44 per hour, starting  July 18.

Tornado siren upgrades underway

  • A quote from VASU Communications to provide MARCS activation compatible upgrades to 22 different county tornado sirens was accepted. The upgrades will cost $83,149.

  • Emergency Management Director Mark Rafeld recommended updates be made to the County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The updates were approved. Rafeld was then approved for travel, at a cost of $50, to the North Central Emergency Management Directors Meeting on July 15.

  • Fred Swanson’s bid of $2,800 for the mowing and baling of hay at County Road 1754 was accepted.

  • Two bids for a guardrail installation project expected to cost $331,730 were opened. The first bid from Lake Erie Construction is for $299,175. The second bid of $312,989 is from PDK Construction.

FOR YOUR INFO  First Energy representative Joe Jakubick gave an update on the power substation located near the fairgrounds. The project is estimated to be completed by August.
