Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte star Adjoa Andoh has joined the cast of new mystery thriller TV series The Red King.

The actress is one of many confirmed stars for the new UKTV original show, with additional cast members including Vigil's Anjli Mohindra, Van Der Valk's Marc Warren and EastEnder's Jill Halfpenny.

Mohindra (also of Bodyguard and Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures fame) will play lead role Grace Narayan, a police sergeant who's sent away from her city life to the small island of St Jory, to crack the unsolved case of missing teenage boy Cai.

Andoh appears as character Lady Heather Nancarrow, with Warren starring as Dr Ian Prideaux — though no further details have been shared of their The Red King roles as yet.

Filming on the six-part series has just started and the cast are very much in safe hands with director Daniel O'Hara, who's recent TV credits include Stay Close, The Stranger, and Sky One's Brassic.

The Red King has been written and created by Toby Whithouse, the brains behind BBC Three supernatural television series Being Human. Whithouse is also down as executive producer for the thriller.

"Working with Quay Street and UKTV has been a genuine joy," he said. "This has been a passion project for all of us. A genre-bending mystery, combining drama, suspense and horror, starring some of the best actors in television.

"We're so excited to share these characters and their stories with you."

With filming having just begun, there's no trailer or release date available as yet, though UKTV has confirmed that the series will air on crime drama channel Alibi sometime in 2024.

Fans of Andoh most recently saw her reprise her role as Lady Danbury in Netflix's Queen Charlotte. It's thought we'll be seeing more of Lady Danbury in 2023 when Bridgerton season three arrives on screens in the not-too distant future.

Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix, along with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
