The Little Mermaid has announced Simone Ashley's role in the movie.

In an announcement for the live-action Disney remake's UK premiere next month, Ashley was finally confirmed to be playing Indira, one of Ariel's mer-sisters.

The star will also be attending the premiere, alongside Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, and Javier Bardem.

Ariel's others siblings are Karina (played by Kajsa Mohammar), Caspia (Nathalie Sorrell), Mala (Karolina Conchet), Perla (Lorena Andrea) and Tameka (Sienna King).

Earlier this month, The Little Mermaid director Rob Marshall discussed why One Direction's Harry Styles ultimately declined the role of Prince Eric, Ariel's love interest.

"We met with him. He was lovely. What a wonderful guy. But at the end of the day, he really felt like he wanted to go off and do the movies that he ended up doing, which were sort of darker," he told Entertainment Weekly.

These included last year's utopian nightmare Don't Worry Darling and gay romance drama My Policeman.

The Little Mermaid is set to be Disney's longest live-action remake yet, clocking in at 2 hours 15 minutes, according to AMC Theaters.

The film is also updating some of the lyrics on classic songs including 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' and 'Kiss the Girl', to incorporate consent.

"There are some lyric changes in 'Kiss the Girl' because people have gotten very sensitive about the idea that [Prince Eric] would, in any way, force himself on [Ariel]," composer Alan Menken recently said.

The Little Mermaid is set to be released on May 26. The original animated version is currently available to stream on Disney+.
