Bridget Moynahan Reveals How Tom Brady Split Affected Her Pregnancy
Bridget Moynahan opens up about dealing with public scrutiny while she was pregnant with Tom Brady's baby. Brady and her had broken up and he started dating Gisele Bündchen.
She said people would follow her and hide outside her house. "That kind of attention felt like a threat."
Moynahan and Brady now co-parent their 11-year-old son, Jack. The football player also shares two children with Bündchen.
In a new personal essay, Bridget Moynahan opens up about the time she was pregnant with her and Tom Brady's son, Jack, in 2007 after they had split. At the time, the NFL star had already moved on with supermodel Gisele Bündchen, making Moynahan's pregnancy a topic of interest for tabloids, and it wasn't easy for her to handle the public scrutiny while expecting.
"Being pregnant and having a baby are such personal, intimate moments," Moynahan reveals in the new book, Our Shoes, Our Selves, an anthology of essays from various women, per People.
"I would have cars following me, and men hiding in the bushes outside my house," she added. "As a new mother, you want to just protect your child. That kind of attention felt like a threat."
The actress also reflected on her pregnancy in a 2008 interview with Harper's BAZAAR. "Going through that traumatic time of being heartbroken and then being pregnant turned my whole life upside down and inside out and just knocked the wind out of me," she told the magazine. "But I got so much out of that. It's golden and it's tough and it was fucked up. But now I have a child, and it's the best thing in the world."
Moynahan and Brady were together from 2004 to 2006, according to Us Weekly, but they continue to co-parent their son Jack, now 11.
"Tom and I made a decision to raise a child together and we both found partners that not only supported us in raising that child, but also loved our child as if he was their own," she explains in her new book. "I don’t think you can ask for more than that. My son is surrounded by love." The actress has been married to businessman Andrew Frankel for three years.
Bündchen gave her perspective of Moynahan's pregnancy in her own book, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, which was released last year. She found out Moynahan was expecting a child with Brady two months after Gisele started dating him. "I felt my world had been turned upside down. Needless to say, that wasn't an easy time. But it was a time that brought about so much growth," she wrote, though she didn't call out Moynahan by name.
She did, however, call Bridget and Tom's son Jack "a blessing" and treats him like one of her own. (Bündchen and Brady share two children together.) "I wanted to be there for Jack and Tom, and do whatever I could to create stability in their lives, and help them to have a close relationship," she said.
