Bridgewater College names new women's basketball coach

BRIDGEWATER — Stephanie Flamini will be the new women's basketball coach at Bridgewater College.

That announcement was made Monday afternoon by Bridgewater College director of athletics Curt Kendall. Flamini is a former Old Dominion Athletic Conference coach of the year and WBCA region coach of the year while at Guilford College.

Flamini will be the eighth head coach in the Bridgewater women's basketball history.

Flamini led the Guilford College women's basketball program for 18 years, leading the Quakers to a 287-171 record, which included six ODAC championship final appearances and three league titles.

Kendall mistakenly said she had won six ODAC championships during her introductory press conference.

"Hopefully I will get six ODAC championships by the end of it," a laughing Flamini said when she stepped to the microphone.

She is the winningest coach in Guilford women's basketball history, a two-time ODAC Coach of the Year (2016, 2019), and a finalist for the national coach of the year while at the Greensboro, North Carolina school.

"She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and proven success to our traditionally strong women's basketball program," Kendall said in a press release. "She knows our conference well and brings great passion, leadership and a competitive drive that will serve our current and future players well."

The King of Prussia, Pa. native served as Guiford's senior woman administrator from 2015-2021. Last year she served as the senior associate director of athletics at the University of Hartford.

Before joining Guilford's staff, Flamini spent three seasons as head coach of the women's basketball team at Chowan University. She guided Chowan to three straight winning seasons, amassing a 42-32 record during that time. Flamini also worked as Chowan's senior woman administrator/assistant athletic director.

Flamini, who also enjoyed a stint as women's basketball coach and assistant director of athletics/senior woman administrator at University of Maine at Farmington, has also worked as an assistant coach at Shippensburg University and West Chester University.
