Bridgewater motorcyclist, 18, dies in multi-vehicle crash on Bedford Street

BRIDGEWATER — Police are investigating a motorcycle crash that left an 18-year-old Bridgewater man dead, officials said.

The fatal crash, which involved a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle, a 2014 Ford economy van and a 2012 Jeep Cherokee, occurred near the area of 1001 Bedford St. about 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.

According to police, the operator of the motorcycle was traveling south in the breakdown lane on Bedford Street at a high rate of speed while passing vehicles on the right. The Ford, which was traveling in the opposite direction, took a left and the two vehicles collided, causing the motorcycle and its operator to veer into the northbound lane and crash into the Jeep, Police Chief Christopher Delmonte said in a written statement.

The drivers of the Ford and Jeep, whose cars had also sustained damage during the crash, remained on scene after the crash and did not report any injuries, Delmonte said.
