BRIDGMAN — American Electric Power has plans for rebuilding 21 miles of transmission lines between New Buffalo and Bridgman that has drawn visual and ecosystem concerns from both Chikaming Township and Chikaming Open Lands.

That's because the project would replace wooden poles with much taller, 85-foot metal poles and double AEP’s right of way, clearing mature trees to do so.

AEP will hold a public open house to answer questions between 5 and 7 p.m. June 28 at the Weko Beach House, 5301 Lake St. in Bridgman.

The rebuilt lines would run from New Buffalo to Three Oaks, then to Lakeside, then eight miles along the Red Arrow Highway to Bridgman.
