Speaker will share tips for using census

ZOAR — Historic Zoar Village continues its free speaker series on at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Historic Zoar School House.

Peggy Lauritzen, accredited genealogist and lecturer, will share tips for using census records to trace family history. The first federal census was taken in 1790. Due to a 72-year restriction on access to the census, the most recent year available is 1950. Census information provides insights into family names, addresses, birthplaces, birth years, occupations, education, economic status and military service.

Lauritzen is a graduate of Mansfield Business College. She earned a certificate in family history, family history research and education from Brigham Young University. She is an executive committee member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and a course instructor for the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh.

No reservations are required. Free parking is available near the School House. Visit www.historiczoarvillage.com or call 330-874-3011 for more information.
