Early voting for May primary runs April 4 through April 30

Absentee and early voting for the May 2 primary election will begin Tuesday either by mail or in person at the Richland County Board of Elections, 1495 W. Longview Ave., in the lower level classroom. The closest entrance is in the back of the Longview Center by the “Vote Here” sign and flag.

Those who have requested absentee ballots by mail will have their ballot mailed out starting Tuesday. Absentee applications to vote by mail are available online at boe.ohio.gov/richland/ or by calling the office at 419-774-5530 to have a request form mailed to you.

Early voting ends at 5 p.m. April 30. The BOE will be open extended hours beginning April 24.All precincts in Richland County will be open. Mansfield voters may request a Republican, Democrat or an issues only ballot. Voters in Ontario's second ward may request a Democrat or issues only ballot. The remaining wards in Ontario will have an issues only ballot. The remaining Richland County voters will have an issues only ballot.

Motorists alerted to several upcoming road closures

Several infrastructure projects will impact Richland County traffic starting Sunday.

Due to Norfolk Southern Railroad track being repaired, sections of the North Main Street railroad tracks in Mansfield will be closed beginning Sunday. Detour signs will be posted at the work site. Work is expected to be completed by April 9.

Smiley Avenue, between North Gamble Street and Broadway Street in Shelby, will be closed for 90 days starting April 10. The closure will allow for a bridge replacement project.

Marion Avenue Road, between Lexington-Ontario Road and Sheirer Road in Troy Township, will be closed Monday and will remain closed for five days, weather permitting, for a culvert repair.

Earth Stewardship Celebration about to get underway

The City of Mansfield’s Earth Stewardship Committee is pleased to announce the 27th annual Earth Stewardship Celebration to be held from April 1 through Aug. 1. This program celebrates Earth Day, Arbor Day, Soil Stewardship Week and Planting Pride in Mansfield and the Richland County area.

Residents, churches, nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools, government agencies and other groups are encouraged to schedule and conduct a litter cleanup, beautification project, tree planting and/or recycling project as well as other projects such as creation of community gardens and planting wildflower or butterfly gardens.

Projects conducted through Aug. 1 can register to be part of the 12th annual Earth Stewardship Pride Contest, which will include several awards and prizes. This year there will be a new Star Award where each city or village throughout Richland County that registers a project will be recognized.
