Briefs: AgCredit awards $121,000 in Mission Fund grants to 23 local organizations

FOSTORIA — AgCredit, one of northern Ohio’s largest lenders for farmers, rural homeowners and agribusiness, announced that it is awarding $121,000 in Mission Fund grants to 23 community organizations in support of their efforts to improve the quality of life in communities primarily within the cooperative’s 18-county service territory. Among the recipients is the Crawford County Agricultural Society, which was awarded $9,000.

Now in its fifth year, the Mission Fund supports AgCredit’s commitment to investing in the future of agriculture and positively impacting the quality of life in rural Ohio. Recipients were selected based on their proposals to meet criteria in one or more of four key areas — education, environment, technology and quality of rural life.

Organizations may apply for Mission Fund grants of up to $15,000 per year. The 2023 application process will begin in March, and funds will be distributed by Dec. 31. For more information about the lending cooperative or the Mission Fund, visit AgCredit.net.

Charity volleyball game benefits the Salvation Army

On Nov. 22, the Wynford FFA hosted its annual Salvation Army Charity Seniors vs. Staff volleyball game. Students in grades 9-12 donated $3 or two cans of food to watch and the middle school students donated cans of food.

This year the senior team was victorious after a hard-fought battle in a three-set match. The FFA Chapter raised a total of 347 canned goods and donated an additional $400 to the Bucyrus Salvation Army.

Area Agency on Aging announces new Crawford County board member

ONTARIO — The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. announces the appointment of a new member, Christine Copper, to its Board of Trustees, who will serve as the Crawford County representative.

Copper is the executive director at the North Central State College (NCSC) Foundation. Her prominence in the community is noted by previously or currently serving on the boards of the American Red Cross, Shelby Community Improvement Corporation, Crawford Success Center, Mansfield Rotary, Mansfield Altrusa, and North Central State College Board, and the NSCS Foundation Board. Her experience in workforce development, fundraising, and customer relationship will bring a diverse perspective to the Area Agency on Aging Board.

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc., located at Hawkins Corner in Ontario, serves the North Central Ohio area, including Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca and Wyandot Counties, providing assistance to aging individuals and disabled individuals.
