Crawford County Council on Aging recognized for its efforts

MANSFIELD — The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. presented several awards during its annual meeting at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center in Mansfield.

The Project Collaboration award was presented to the focal points in the service area, including Ashland County Council on Aging Inc., Crawford County Council on Aging Inc., Enrichment Centers for Huron County, The Station Break Senior Center of Knox County, Marion Senior Center, Morrow County Services for Older Citizens, Seneca County Commission on Aging, and Wyandot County Council on Aging Inc.

The Community Partnership award was presented to Schmidt Security Pro. The Advocate of the Year award was presented to the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program Volunteers – Region 5. The Award of Excellence was presented to Grant Hollenbach, LPCC-S, and Rick Crouch. Inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame was John Kastelic.

Proceeds from the annual meeting held Dec. 1 will provide scholarships to students in pursuit of a field of study, certification program, or degree benefitting the field of aging.

Seniors can enjoy holiday happenings at the Council on Aging

The Crawford Council on Aging is offering holiday-themed activities throughout December at 200 S. Spring St.

Seniors can make Christmas treat boxes at 10 a.m. Thursday. This craft is free and donations are appreciated. Christmas candle-making will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 15. Class fee is $5.

This year’s senior holiday party is Winter Wonderland, taking place 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 22. Sign up is limited and required. The party features live music by Michael Rose, hot meal, craft, karaoke and more.

Crestline bingo will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Crestline Community Center. A members-only bingo will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 29 and is only open to current, paid CCCOA activities members.

Senior activities are finishing out 2022 with an End of the Year Social from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 30.

Ohio gun hunters have successful week of deer hunting

COLUMBUS — Hunters harvested 71,932 white-tailed deer during the 2022 gun week that concluded on Sunday, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. In the same weeklong period over the past three years, hunters checked an average of 68,534 deer. In 2021, the weeklong number was 70,381.

In Crawford County, 669 deer were harvested compared to 618 in 2021. Coshocton County once again led the state with 2,457 deer taken.

Deer gun season opens again for the weekend of Dec. 17-18.
