Avita services coming to Shelby

Avita Health System has announced that it will be expanding its services into Shelby in early 2024.

Avita has purchased a provider clinic at 24 E. Whitney Ave. and is already in the building preparing for an opening in early 2024. Information about specific services that will be provided will be announced in the near future, according to Vice President of Operations Kim Winkle.

Avita Health System operates three not-for-profit hospitals, in Galion, Bucyrus and Ontario, in addition to two walk-in clinics in Ontario and Bellville, and two Level II Cath Labs in Galion and Ontario. The healthcare system also has 28 clinic locations throughout Bucyrus, Galion, Ontario, Crestline, New Washington, Bellville and Shelby.

Avita’s providers, including specialists, accept self-referral. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the provider’s office directly or calling the provider referral line at 419-468-0961.

Area Agency on Aging to host Medicare Part D information session

ONTARIO — The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. will be hosting a Medicare Part D Information Session at 10 a.m. Friday at the Hawkins Conference Center, 2131 Park Ave West in Ontario. The event will also be streamed live on the agency's Facebook page.

The Agency will provide attendees with accurate, unbiased information about Medicare and the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefits. The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) will also be available to answer questions about Medicare, giving attendees a unique opportunity to save money and better understand their Medicare plan.

Open enrollment is now underway through Dec. 7 for all current Medicare enrollees wanting to review their current plan and compare 2024 plans. All prescription plans and Medicare Advantage Plans can be changed during this period. Changes that are made during Open Enrollment 2023 will go into effect Jan. 1, 2024.

This event is supported by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award with 100% funding by ACL/HHS.

Portion of Millsboro Road closed this week

Millsboro West Road, between Crestline-Blooming Grove Road and Stevens Road in Sandusky Township, closed Monday and will remain closed for five days, weather permitting. The closure will allow for an emergency bridge replacement.

Women’s Fund to announce annual grants

The Women’s Fund of the Richland County Foundation will announce this year’s grant recipients during a luncheon Nov. 3 at Kingwood Center Gardens. The Women’s Fund also will announce the recipient of the JoAnn Dutton Volunteer Service Award.

The award honors women who are leaders and devote a significant amount of time and energy in a meaningful way to local charitable organizations. The award was named in honor of JoAnn Dutton, former executive director of the Mansfield YWCA.

Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased at richlandcountyfoundation.org.
