Totals for Prescription Drug Take Back Day announced

On Saturday, the METRICH Enforcement Unit along with the Mansfield Division of Police, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, the Shelby Police Department, Bellville Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Community Action for Capable Youth (CACY), Richland County Solid Waste Authority, Richland Public Health and the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board, participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Take Back Initiative.

In addition to Richland County law enforcement agencies, numerous other law enforcement agencies from the METRICH region also participated. The METRICH region collected more than 1,952 pounds of unused or expired prescription medication. Community participation and commitment by all law enforcement agencies in the METRICH region was key to the success of this event.

The totals from Richland County are:

  • Mansfield Police Department - 167.2 pounds

  • Richland County Sheriff’s Office - 21.8 pounds

  • Shelby Police Department - 34.3 pounds

  • Bellville Police Department - 45.8 pounds

  • Lexington Police Department - 37.4 pounds

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Minority Health Fair is Saturday

The 24th annual Minority Health Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oasis of Love Church, 190 Chester Ave. in Mansfield.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to speak with health care workers, visit vendors and pick up swag and increase their knowledge of health care issues in a welcoming and festive setting.

Richland Rural Life Center to host annual rib BBQ

The Richland Rural Life Center, 969 E. Crall Road, Mansfield, will host its annual country rib BBQ from 4 to 6 p.m. on May 6.

The menu will include ribs slow cooked over an open pit, potato or macaroni salad, baked beans, roll, beverage and homemade vanilla ice cream. Meals are $12 for adults and $7 for children age 10 and under. Homemade ice cream quarts will also be available for $4.

Tickets are sold at the door and carry-out is available. The entrance to the center is located between Stewart Road and Ohio 545 in the Madison area.

For more information Call 419-544-2418 and leave a message. The Richland Rural Life Center is a non-profit organization that supports 4-H and Boy/Cub Scout troops. Proceeds from dinners and events help maintain the RRLC land and facilities.
