Chamber hosts marketing workshop

Local businesses had the opportunity to learn how to improve their marketing efforts on July 13 during the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce's Marketing 101 Workshop sponsored by Alluvial Private Wealth. Thanks to the sponsorship, Chamber members were able to attend free and non-members could attend at a very low fee.

Attendees heard from four facilitators each focused on a different topic: Rue Walker, digital marketing strategist with The Markit Lounge, discussed how to spend a marketing budget wisely. Nikki Workman, communications director for the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities, focused on the importance of telling a story and creating branding strategies through multiple channels. Wendy Weichenthal, Marion Technical College public relations specialist, discussed social media dos and don'ts. Eric Mosley, outside account executive/sports director for WMRN AM and WYNT-FM, shared information about media options and impacts.

The Marion Area Chamber is planning several future education opportunities, including 10-Hour OSHA General Industry Training 2023 on Aug. 3 and 4 and Supervisor Six-Pack 100 Series: 2-hour sessions on Aug. 16, 23, & 30 and Sept. 6, 20 & 27.

Visit and register for future educational opportunities at marionareachamber.org or call 740-382-2181.

The chamber also reminds businesses that the Leadership Marion! application submission deadline is Aug. 30.

6-State Trooper Project focuses on 'Move Over' violations

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol joins forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on "Move Over" violations. The initiative began on Sunday at 12:01 a.m. and will continue through 11:59 p.m. Saturday.

The high-visibility enforcement initiative includes the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Michigan State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the West Virginia State Police, as well as OSHP.

Since 2018, Ohio State Highway Patrol cruisers were struck in 61 crashes that were “Move Over” related. During that same time period, the Patrol issued 26,739 "Move Over" violation citations. These crashes resulted in the deaths of two civilians and 56 injuries to officers and civilians. In 2022, there were only 11 such crashes, 38 percent fewer than in 2021.

Ohio law requires all drivers to move over to an adjacent lane when approaching any vehicle with flashing or rotating lights parked on the roadside. If moving over is not possible due to traffic or weather conditions, or because a second lane does not exist, motorists should slow down and proceed with caution. A version
