Chamber welcomes new downtown treat shop

Marion Area Chamber Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the veteran-owned and family operated YummY Treats, Candy & MORE at its new location at 140 E. Center St. in downtown Marion.

Owners John and Jackie Haupt say their goal is to offer something for everyone. The shop features a wide variety of unique sodas and candies that range from old fashioned to one-of-a-kind flavors from all over the world that are hard to find. There's a mix station where customers can fill bags with their favorite candies. Outside storefront windows have been painted by local artist Jodi Costello.

Public invited to the Big Tent Event

Marion Technical College is proud to host the Big Tent Event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the Marion Campus, located at 1467 Mt. Vernon Ave. This fun, free event features many attractions including Columbus Zoo animals and dogs from the Marion Area Humane Society. Naturalist James Anderson with the Marion County Parks Department will use fishing rods provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to help those who want try fishing on the Marion Campus pond.

In addition, there are inflatables for kids to bounce in. The Marion Public Library will offer free swag bags for children who have graduated from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The library mascot, Swoop, and one of the Marion Tech mascots, Enzo, will also make appearances.

Marion Tech’s mascots, Veda (which means knowledge) and Enzo (which means home leader) stand with attendees at the Big Tent Event. The huskies were chosen as mascots because they are leaders, as are Marion Tech students and graduates.

Glimpses of fall color begin to pop in tree canopies statewide

COLUMBUS — An array of fall colors is now beginning to dot the tree canopies around the Buckeye State. As temperatures continue to moderate and with rain in the forecast, the fall color transformation should soon begin in earnest statewide, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

Those interested in finding the most eye-catching leaves throughout the season should check out ODNR’s fall color website, the official guide to the changing colors. ODNR encourages people to share fall color photos using #OhioFall23, #OhioTheHeartofitAll and #FallinOhio.
