The Marion Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Marion City Schools faculty, representatives of United Federal Credit Union, students and guests held a ribbon cutting on March 31 to celebrate the official opening of the Harding Brew in the Harding High School Cafetorium.

Business Marketing Pathway students began working last fall to open a coffee shop for the students and staff. After a few months, they connected with United employees for help with creation of a business plan. In addition to offering behind the scenes support, United gave the students seed money to help open the shop.

The Harding Brew will serve as a hands-on-learning laboratory providing students with practical learning experience to reinforce the business marketing classroom instruction. Students will work in the coffee shop during their designated class time two days a week. Responsibilities range from ordering supplies, tracking cash flow, training new employees, managing the schedule, making coffee, delivering orders and promoting the coffee shop.

The coffee shop is open 7:40 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Marion Public Health to observe Good Friday

In observance of Good Friday, Marion Public Health will be closed on Friday. The closing will affect all divisions, including the administration, vital statistics, environmental health, nursing, emergency preparedness and WIC.
