Briefs: Crawford Partnership releases development report

New publication highlights 19 projects and local leader perspectives

The Crawford Partnership is releasing the first Crawford County Development Report, portraying the development progress for 2022. The 12-page report can now be viewed at cpreports.org.

The new annual publication highlights the county’s recent economic rise, as well as a profile of 19 of the industrial, commercial and community development projects that were either announced or completed in 2022. The report also provides the perspectives of local leaders on the previous year and lists some of the major activities and accomplishments of the partnership.

Projects and companies depicted include JBS Development, IB-TECH, Diamond Wipes International, Urban Industries, Advanced Fiber Technology, Shelter Works, Elliott Machine Works, Avita Health System, Shoe Sensation, Millennial Services, Spot’s Rolling Bean Coffee Co., Buehler’s Fresh Foods, Firelands Federal Credit Union, Flour & Whisk Bakery, New Washington veterans memorial, Bucyrus-Nevada Waterline, Galion Community Center YMCA, Kelly Park playscape, and County Fairgrounds building.

Crawford County Sheriff announces distracted driving effort

Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the national U Drive. U Text. U Pay. high-visibility enforcement effort. From April 3-10, law enforcement officers will work together to enforce texting and distracted-driving laws.

According to NHTSA, nearly 32,483 people died in distraction-affected crashes over the 10-year period from 2011 to 2020. In 2020, there were 3,142 deaths linked to driver distraction, or 8% of all motor-vehicle crash fatalities. This is an increase of 23 fatalities compared to 2019.

Research shows that Millennials and Generation Z are the most distracted drivers, often using their cell phones to talk, text and scroll through social media while behind the wheel. In 2020, 7% of drivers 15 to 20 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted.

AMVETS monthly breakfast will be held Saturday

AMVETS Post 27, 235 E. Galen St. in Bucyrus, will hold its monthly breakfast 7-10 a.m. Saturday. The cost is $8. The public is welcome. Proceeds will benefit various veterans programs.

Crawford County Democrats to meet Wednesday

The Crawford County Democratic Central Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the county engineer's office, 815 Whetstone St., Bucyrus. The agenda will include a recap of the Rockin' The Vote fundraiser. All area Democrats are invited to attend.
