Crestline PD receives state recertification

The Crestline Police Department is one of five agencies to achieve recertification by the Office of Criminal Justice Services for state standards established by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board. The recertification process takes place on a revolving, three to four-year cycle.

Overall, there are 618 certified agencies throughout Ohio that have met the initial standards. Additionally, 87.5% of all law enforcement officers in Ohio are employed by an agency that is involved in some form of the certification process.

The Collaborative was formed in 2015 to create uniform minimum standards for Ohio’s law enforcement agencies. The first two standards were developed by the Collaborative in 2015 to improve the trust between citizens and law enforcement officers.

Additional standards established by the Collaborative address community engagement, bias-free policing, body-worn cameras, vehicular pursuits, telecommunicator training, employee misconduct, mass protests, agency wellness, interaction with minors, interaction with people in crisis, and property room management and evidence control. The standards are the first of their kind in Ohio and were developed and established by the Collaborative as part of the state’s efforts to strengthen community and police relations.

Popped bicycle tire causes scare at Mohawk Local Schools

SYCAMORE — Early Monday morning, staff members at Mohawk Local Schools reported a loud, unusual noise in the school building. The district immediately went into a Level 3 lockdown and called first responders. The school district remained on lockdown until an “all clear” was given.

After a thorough investigation of the building and the surrounding area, it was determined that the noise was a student’s bicycle tire that popped inside the building, echoing throughout the hallways.

The school district did release students to the appropriate family member following the district’s Reunification Plan, as school was altered for the rest of the day. School resumed its regular schedule Tuesday.

Merger of United Mutual into Ohio Mutual Holding Company completed

The merger of Wisconsin-based United Mutual Insurance Company as a subsidiary under Ohio Mutual Insurance Group’s mutual holding company structure has been completed effective Oct. 1, the company announced Monday.

Immediate plans include adding new products and additional benefits to members in the Wisconsin market to round out the product lines previously offered by United Mutual. Products will continue to be marketed under the United Mutual brand.

The boards of directors for both organizations voted on May 17 to approve the transaction, and the merger was approved by United Mutual policyholders in July. As a result of the merger, United Mutual has been redomesticated to Ohio and joins Ohio Mutual’s intercompany pool: Ohio-domiciled Ohio Mutual Insurance Company, its wholly owned subsidiary United Ohio Insurance Company, and Maine-domiciled Casco Indemnity Company — all entities of holding company Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, Inc.

The transaction with United Mutual adds nearly 6,000 policyholders in North Central and Western Wisconsin and 40 independent agencies to Ohio Mutual Insurance Group Inc.
