Briefs: Elgin alumni to gather next month

2022 Elgin High School Alumni Banquet in June

The eighth annual Elgin Alumni Banquet, using the Hooray for Hollywood theme, is scheduled for June 25 in the cafetorium of the Elgin K-12 building. The evening will begin with a social time at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6. Each meal will feature apple bourbon chicken and marsala steak medallions, salad, scalloped potatoes, corn casserole, rolls, fruit pies. The program will begin at 7 p.m. with additional social time to follow. Attendees are asked to wear their favorite Hollywood attire.

Elgin alumni, former and current faculty, administrators, staff and graduates from former community schools Green Camp, LaRue, New Bloomington and Prospect are invited to attend. Honored classes to be recognized during the program include the classes of 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022.

The cost for the meal is $24. Reservations must be received by June 17. Go to elginalumni.org to submit a reservation using PayPal for payment. Or download the form from the website and send the reservation to Gwyn Trihaft McKinniss, 3151 Codding Road., La Rue 43332. Checks should be made payable to Elgin Alumni Association.

Proceeds benefit the EAA Scholarship Fund. Anyone who cannot attend the banquet and would like to make a donation to the Elgin Scholarship Fund, may send a check payable to Elgin Alumni Association but designate it for the EAA Scholarship Fund.

Deadline approaching for Area Agency on Aging award nominations

ONTARIO — Friday is the deadline to nominate someone for the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging's Outstanding Senior Citizen and Community Service Awards.

Award recipients from a nine-county area (one awardee from each county) will be honored. Nominees must be at least 60 years of age, a legal resident of Ohio for at least five years, and have made significant contributions to the community. A husband and wife may receive the award jointly when both have been involved in community service. One Outstanding Senior Citizen Award will be presented for each county in the service area (Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca and Wyandot).

Community Service Awards are targeted toward an organization, agency, service club, a media outlet, or a business that has made an outstanding contribution to the community on behalf of senior citizens. One award will be presented for the nine-county area.
