Tire amnesty event coming up for Richland County residents

Richland County Solid Waste (RCSW) is hosting a free tire amnesty event 8 a.m.-noon (or until maximum capacity is reached) on Aug. 27 at the Richland County Fairgrounds. Ten passenger tires per vehicle will be accepted. The event is for residents of Richland County. Proof of residency is required. Tires must be free of water/fluids and off the rim. The Ohio Farm Bureau is co-hosting the event enabling RCSW to accept a limited amount of tractor tires – up to 6 feet in diameter.

Sponsors include the Richland County Fairgrounds, Liberty Tire and Richland Public Health.

Use the back entrance of the fairgrounds off Lantz Road entrance to participate in this free event.

Richland Carrousel Park to host anniversary celebration

Richland Carrousel Park will mark its 31st anniversary Aug. 27 with free rides every hour. The event will take place 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and also will include a prize for the first 50 children, entertainment by Richland Academy of the Arts and a sale in the gift shop. In addition from noon-4 p.m., Shady Lane Alpaca Farm will be on had with alpacas visitors can feed and pet, plus the Humane Society of Richland County will host a dog show and contest.

Patrol enters nationwide 'Best Looking Cruiser' contest

COLUMBUS - The Ohio State Highway Patrol has entered the American Association of State Troopers (AAST) “Best Looking Cruiser” contest. Through Thursday, visit the Patrol’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages and click the link in any of the contest posts.

You can also visit surveymonkey.com/r/QHXV8ZS to cast your vote for Ohio for the best looking state agency cruiser photo. When visiting the SurveyMonkey website, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Ohio from the drop-down menu. Agency rankings will be updated on AAST’s website at statetroopers.org throughout the contest. The photo receiving the most votes will be featured on the cover of AAST’s 2023 wall calendar.

Last year, Ohio finished in second place.
