Next mobile food pantry set for Tuesday

GALION — The Galion City Schools, in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, will hold the Crawford County Mobile Drive-Thru Pantry from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Galion Middle School.

Second Harvest will distribute free assorted boxes of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, frozen meat, milk and more. Those wishing to participate are asked to preregister online at bit.ly/SH-FB_SEP27. Registration is not required but highly recommended.

Each household receiving food is required to present a photo ID. Food will only be placed in the trunk. Two households per vehicle are permitted.

Section of Brandt Road West in Galion to close on Monday

GALION — Brandt Road West, from Ohio 598 to Keller Drive in Galion, will be completely closed to traffic Monday. Local traffic may use Keller Drive as a detour route. Work is expected to take one day.

Richland conservation district to honor Volunteer of the Year

Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (Richland SWCD) will honor Marilyn Roe, this year's Volunteer of the Year, with a tree planting ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday. A red maple will be planted at the intersection of Dunlap Drive and Cal Miller Lane in Marshall Park — a location selected by Roe. The public is invited to attend.

Roe, a retired librarian, started volunteering with Richland SWCD in 2017. She also volunteers for Catholic Charities Richland County and the Richland County Probate Court.

Highway patrol takes part in 6-State Trooper Project

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Highway Patrol joined forces with members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on criminal patrol and marijuana interdiction and eradication. During the project, a total of 36,720 grams of marijuana was seized and 37 felony marijuana arrests were made. In Ohio, 1,530 grams of marijuana weres seized and two felony marijuana arrests were made.

The project ran from 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 15 through 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 18. The high-visibility campaign also included state police in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

During the enforcement period, a total of 151 felony drug arrests took place in the six states, including 43 in Ohio.
