Briefs: Garage sale, breakfast planned at Trinity Lutheran

Marion church hosting two events this week

Trinity Lutheran Church at 4535 Smeltzer Road in Marion will be holding its church-wide garage sale 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Both days there will be food served for either lunch or dinner.

Then on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, the church will hold its community breakfast. The menu will consist of bacon, sausage, sausage gravy & biscuits, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, Danish, milk, juice and coffee all for a suggested donation of $7 per person.

Both of these events will be hosted in the Educational Building to the rear of the church. Everyone is welcome.

Ohio announces launch of military friendly webpage

COLUMBUS — In recognition and celebration of Military Appreciation Month in May, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has announced the launch of a new resource page for servicemen and women and their families on governor.ohio.gov.

Ohio is home to more than 800,000 veterans and military retirees, active-duty personnel, reservists, and National Guard members. The military-friendly page is a one-stop shop to find everything from employment opportunities to county veterans service offices. There are also resources for military members who are relocating to Ohio, including how to enroll your children in school, information about Purple Star Schools, or how to transfer the professional license of your spouse.

Ohio’s wild turkey harvest results through May 1

COLUMBUS — Ohio wild turkey hunters have harvested 7,551 birds during the 2022 spring hunting season as of May 1, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. This total includes results from the two-day youth season April 9-10, the first nine days of the south zone since the April 23 season opener, and the first two days of hunting in the northeast zone, which opened April 30.

Hunters have harvested an average of 10,759 birds during the same time during the three preceding years (2019 to 2021). Hunters checked 9,745 birds during the same time in the spring of 2021.

The top county with the most checked wild turkeys is Guernsey with 224. In Marion County 18 wild turkeys were harvested.

Ohio has two zones for 2022 spring wild turkey hunting: the south zone and the northeast zone. The south zone’s season is open until Sunday, May 22. The northeast zone (Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, and Trumbull counties) will remain open until Sunday, May 29.
