New provider for Home Weatherization Assistance Program for Richland County

Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission is now the provider of the Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) for Richland County. The previous provider, Ground Level Solutions, is no longer able to provide these services.

Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission has provided home weatherization assistance services for Marion and Crawford Counties for over 40 years, and for Morrow County since 2016.

The Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) is funded by the Department of Energy and assists with air leakage, insulation, hot water tanks, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and furnaces. It is available to both renters and home owners who meet income eligibility criteria. For a family of four it's up to $55,500.

Farm Bureau and Richland SWCD to hold joint celebration on Sept. 7

Richland County Farm Bureau and Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (Richland SWCD) are hosting a joint annual celebration on Sept. 7 at the Kehoe Center, 175 Mansfield Ave. in Shelby. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30.

The celebration is open to the public and includes dinner, guest speaker Rev. Paul Lintern, “Richland County is Rich Land,” awards and organization updates. The cost is $20 per person and reservations are requested by Aug. 24. Reservations may be made at richlandswcd.net.

Farm Bureau members will vote on proposed policies which direct the programs and activities for the upcoming year, local trustees, and Ohio Farm Bureau Annual Meeting delegates.

The celebration will also commemorate Richland SWCD’s 75th year and being named Ohio’s District of the Year. The Cooperator of the Year and Volunteer of the Year will be recognized.

Eligible voters may cast their vote for two open Richland SWCD Board Supervisor positions from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The candidates are Brian Alt, Rick Novak and Greg Timberlake. Absentee voting began Wednesday and closes Sept. 7 at noon at the Richland SWCD office. Visit richlandswcd.net for election information.

More than $322,000 in missing money found at Ohio State Fair

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Unclaimed Funds is celebrating another successful year of finding Ohioan’s missing money at the Ohio State Fair.

This year, the division helped return $322,729.94 in unclaimed funds to more than 1,000 claimants who visited our booth at the fair. The average claim at this year’s state fair was nearly $308. One Ohioan this year found more than $50,000. Another claimant found more than $28,000.

Unclaimed funds are lost or forgotten money that businesses and banks report to the division after accounts become inactive, typically 3-5 years. The money comes from inactive checking and savings accounts, refund/credit balances, uncashed cashier’s checks, stocks and bonds forgotten utility deposits or last paychecks.

The division is currently safeguarding more than $3.9 billion in unclaimed funds. Ohioans can check at any time to see if they have unclaimed funds online or by calling 614-466-4433.
