Lexington Schools to begin registration for full-day kindergarten in April

LEXINGTON — Lexington Local Schools are now offering full-day kindergarten, which school officials say provides an important bridge between preschool and the primary grades and offers more time for teachers and students to work together.

Children who will be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1 are eligible for kindergarten during the 2023-2024 school year.

The registration window will be open April 11 to June 2 at Western Elementary. In-person registration will take place 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 11, 12 ,13 and 14 as well as 4-7 p.m. on April 13. Transportation department will be on-hand to answer questions, and additional staff will be available to assist with Final Forms and paperwork.

Required documents to complete a child’s registration include the child’s original birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization record along with custody papers (if applicable), a utility bill for proof of residency, and parent/guardian driver’s license.

Upon completion of Final Forms and submission of documents, an appointment for kindergarten screening with be scheduled for early August.

Richland SWCD seeking participants for Family Fun Festival in June

Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (Richland SWCD) and Malabar Farm State Park are co-hosting the third annual Family Fun on the Farm Festival from 2 to 6 p.m. on June 24 at Malabar Farm State Park.

Additional partners, volunteers, exhibitors and vendors are being sought to help grow the festival this year. Family Fun on the Farm Festival is a free festival with numerous hands-on activities for children that highlight where food comes from and conservation.

Each exhibitor is provided a 10-foot-by-10-foot space free of charge. Exhibitors provide their own tables, chairs, activity and materials. Volunteers help in a variety of roles. Food and beverages will be sold.

Free 'Welcome to Medicare' virtual town hall to kick off statewide educational events

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) is hosting a free “Welcome to Medicare” virtual town hall educational event at 11 a.m. Tuesday for Ohioans new to Medicare.

The virtual town hall kicks off OSHIIP's free in-person and virtual "Welcome to Medicare" statewide events that will run April through June.

OSHIIP representatives will provide an overview of Medicare, Part A and B benefits, Part D prescription drug coverage, Medicare supplemental insurance plans, Medicare Advantage plans, eligibility, enrollment, financial assistance, important deadlines, and take questions.

Registration is required for the virtual town hall and can be done at insurance.ohio.gov.
